Coming from Switzerland, the former smuggler town of Livigno is accessible only through a narrow one-way tunnel that leads past this dam lake along an avalanche-protected road. I found this stretch of road uniquely atmospheric—it somehow captures the mysterious character of Livigno. Livigno became an annual hot spot on our agenda during the Burton European Open’s that took place there between 2001 – 2004. An amazing place to ride, by the way. The image was taken in 2001.
